My Cover

Originally uploaded by mightyquinninwky©™
This is the cover of the atlas that bought and used my pic. I took this last year on the banks of the Ohio. I was across US41 South from Ellis Park on the bank. A beautiful early October afternoon, beautiful blue sky listening to "Ladies and Gentlemen...." The Grateful Dead..the last night of the four night stand at Filmore West. Great show and inspired me to take some interesting pics. I thought someone was playing a joke on me when I recieved the email requesting the use of the photo and offering money too. Thats what made me think it was a joke!!! Well come to find out it was real. Not a huge deal, but it made my day nontheless and enough money to invest in a new Canon EOS Rebel XTi. Love it btw. Just thought I would share this with everyone...

Severe Storms

Fire in the Sky II

I promised myself after the drought we have had over the past two years that I wouldn't complain about rain. But the old adage 'When it rains, it pours' is happening here. It has been raining almost none stop for the past month and a half. There have been a few days with more than two inches of rain and then one day of over ten inches of rain. We have gone way past catching up our rain totals and now the ground is saturated, streams are swollen, the Ohio is rising, and the levees are bursting at the seams. The weather around here used to mild except for a few severe storms once in a while, but now it seems it is never just dry, but a drought, a gentle rain storm, but a gully washer that floods the area, a light dusting of snow, but several inches of ice bring the area to a stand still and destroying building, cars and trees. Mother nature is sending us a message, but I am afraid that we are not paying attention, or we are choosing not to hear what is being said!! We need to wake up, if it isn't already too late....

Come on spring...

Or (orton) This?

Keep your eye to the ground and look for the little yellow and purple flowers called crocuses॥they are the true heralds of spring॥so ready for spring to bloom!!! This year is the first year I can say I have had enough winter weather. I think the back to back weeks with ice storms has really soured me toward winter this year. but I am sure after the long summer I will be ready for winter then. But for right now bring on the spring flowers and new growth to renew my senses, body, and mind (and spirit as well, the most important actually)!!

Friday....Yeah The Weekend!!

I am so glad its the weekend finally...its been a very hectic week. Applying to different school boards around the region and finalizing my move from Lexington. I was going to go to Lex. to finish up but with the holiday I think I might wait till after the 4th... They are having hydroplane and jet boat races on the riverfront in Evansville, IN. Its called the Freedom Festival and goes on all week. Something like of 500,000 people will visit over the weekend and week so there will be unlimited photo ops, so that might be where I go. If not I am going to the Federal Game Reserve (Higginson-Henry Game Reserve) in Union County, Kentucky to take nature photos. Either way I will have new pics for Flickr and for this blog.. So till later have a fun and safe holiday weekend!! ! Please be safe!! That goes for everyone!!

Here's some beauty....

Just so you know that I am not all about the negative...here's some beauty I recently found in my backyard and on the side of the road...The first shot is a picture of wild Chicory growing on the side of State Route 359...the coffee substitute and relative to endive that you find in your mixed green salad...Then there's the wildflower Queen Anne's Lace or Wild Carrot...yes the root is edible and the common carrot comes from this plant..also the seeds are used as herbal birth control....then you have my backyard..a bee hard at work and a butterfly working on some thistle in an open field...
Here's a link to get more info on the common chicory...
